What a year it has been for everyone involved in Jewish Children’s Aid Society (JCAS)!
In 2024 JCAS has distributed a record amount ($870,000) to the Melbourne Jewish day schools to fund teachers’ aides for 241 children with special needs. That vital assistance means the children not only attend mainstream schools; it means they can participate fully and thrive at school. This brings life-changing benefits for those children and their families and also an appreciation of the benefits of inclusion for all.
This is made possible through the hard work of our volunteer Board, the generous support of our incredible donors, and the funds raised by our iconic “Posh Opp Shoppe”.
In November, we celebrated the 25th birthday of the Posh Oppe Shoppe in fine style, with a gala event at Glen Eira Town Hall attended by more than 300 people. The event was a fitting celebration of the beloved Glenhuntly Road stores and an opportunity to recognise the contributions of the large ‘family’ of dedicated volunteers, donors and shoppers, from across the community, who have made the stores such a success. David Southwick MP announced on stage that the stores’ tireless founder, Rosalie Silverstein OAM, would receive the Outstanding Achievement Award as part of the upcoming 2024 Caulfield Volunteer Awards, which is due recognition of the work that Rosalie and all who are associated with the stores have done for children in need over many years.
I do hope you enjoy reading some more about the event and what we have been doing at JCAS in this edition of our biannual newsletter. And please do consider supporting JCAS by making a tax deductible donation, to help us further our mission of “Education, Inclusion and Belonging” in 2025 and beyond.
Thank you for your ongoing interest and support.
Warmest regards
Justin Graham KC
